As someone from the 94th percentile, I'm going to say that the ranking system that Dotabuff is introducing is a bad idea. I wouldn't go so far as to say Dotabuff deserved what happened or that they deserved to be punished but it really isn't going to improve the game in any way. It will produce elitists who will do anything for a good rating.
And I'm only telling u my stats to prove that its not just the people under 50% wins who disagree with this. I honestly couldn't care less about it.
Thing is, Excelload seems to be complaining about ALL stats, going by the title at least. If you have an issue with a public rating, that's your opinion. DBR was implemented as private, so it's currently a non-issue. But saying "Stats are bad, they ruin the community" is a retarded view.
The rank system is BULLSHIT!! look at the highest ranked player, 500+ games with the same hero!

I'd like a ranking based on won games against biggest pool of players.. so the more people you've won against the better your ranking.
DOTA2 should be about who can make his/her team win and not about ability to gank/kill/place wards

And having a ranking score based on games won will mean that people will get carried by 5 man teams to a high bracket and then fail when they solo queue.

I'm probably higher than anyone in this thread so far, and I agree with OP. Dota's community is already bad enough (you guys prove that even more here). Stats don't do anything for you, other than provide grounds for pride.

That being said, the community I have found really isn't all that terrible. Nothing on the scale of hon or leagues.
I have yet really see examples of people using stats against other players to shit talk. Really, people might call eachother bad but I don't see people going "wow why are you playing <> with your 40 percent win rate you shit!"
Stats are a fun way to try and improve yourself. That being said, its up to the player to realize that stats arent everything. For example, if you look at your ingame player rating the game gives you on heroes, that is purely based off stats. You want to make it look like you're better? Go get yourself in on a shitton of kills and your rating will go back up.
Do you play carry? Then says, maybe gold/min is important to you. Maybe your creep score is important to you.
Do you play support? That's a bit trickier. KDA doesn't tell the story. Even if wards purchased was a stat, th at wouldn't either. You can support your team without doing any damage to the other team (wisp tether stunning + overcharge, etc).
And, to the guy above, whats wrong with feeling good about yourself? If you're going to play a game, you want to at least feel like you're enjoying it, and to some people that means being (your version) of good at it, which, again, may mean having a high winrate, a high kdr, etc.
I agree that yes, with the introduction of DBR, some/most people will care more. Even if you say you don't, you probably will. I know I would... I see it as only natural. I mean. come on. Even though it's some random third party website, it makes you feel good.
Just remember that no stats website/ingame performance/whatever will ever be super-accurate. You need to judge for yourself.
If you're against being ranked, fine. I respect that. But, its not really a viable option. People already can't see your DBR (and never will) so why are you so mad over it? Just move on. Only you can see it. Don't tell people it if you don't want to. You're ranked in real life (In the US, college admissions are a big one maybe?) so why are you upset over numbers for an online game?
Dotabuff's (planned) implementation of that private thing was a perfect solution. I agree that DB was immature with the whole shuttdown thing, trying to pin it on valve, but it was a good solution nonetheless. Valve has every right to implement their own privacy setting. Dotabuff's solution was for their own ends, which, since I use dotabuff, had no issue with.
Really though, the game already has elitists. I personally think I'm pretty damn good, that doesn't mean I go showboating in-game though. Deal with the small fraction of assholes that you would find in any online game by ignoring/muting. Its not rocket science.

a player with 3000 games might not be a better player than a player with only 200 games, go see bluechipps, he got only 5 fucking games in very highy skill lvl, and he got 3000+ games..

DBR is not about kills, assists, gpm etc. It is just about wins and losses. Your rank will grow if you manage to win while stealing kills from your carry until you start to loose because of that. And although DBR and skill level are correlated, they are not equal just because "skill level" is very subjective thing.
