It seems fishy from the get go, never in real life or in virtual communities give something in return for something future promised.

They tell you before every Steam offer trade that you CANNOT trade steam wallet funds, if i recall correctly. Try to contact support to get your items back, though I doubt you will, unfortunately. Sorry for your loss.

Honestly i won't bother contacting steam support, because as you said, i too very much doubt that they'll do anything about it. I had no knowledge about steam wallet prior to the trade, i guess that was my mistake :/

It's funny because i've never spent a dime on dota 2 and that luna set was probably my most valuable one. O well, a game's a game. It just sucks because there are tons of people out there who wants to destroy your whole dota experience just so they can feed themselves with virtual items.

I've got scammed the same way because I'm generally kind and I trust people.
Had to figure it out but I didn't.
Yet I've still managed to take all the screenshots of the chat and transactions but steam told me they CAN'T ban the guy nor refund my items.

Pretty silly if you ask me, especially from someone throwing money at them.

He means the Lucentyr. He dropped it in a game, and since he is both a very lucky and a very nice guy, he wants to give it you.

you should probably try contacting steam support, the effort is worth the possible return

A very nice guy would give it to one of his team members, hence he's only a nice guy ;-p

As dumb as you are for accepting the scam trade, I've heard good things about steam support recovering "stolen" items.

I got scammed for 13 keys + TA set + Batrider set once.

Felt so stupid after. But honestly, the scammed is as guilty as the scammer. Just be wary of fishy trades all the time and never rush into them.

^oh wow, that really sucks, sorry for your loss. I still feel incredibly stupid as well. Like, i just had a strong feeling that this was going to be a scam, but i did it anyways. Desperation.

Yeah actually while it wasn't so much a scam I did get my account broken into and got a lot more than just a luna set stolen (about $2000 worth of items) and contacted support, while they took a long time they did sort everything out just right.

They warn you, remind you not to trade with fishy types, and they restrict your account for a week but you get it all sorted in the end.

People tend to believe the things they want to. Had a friend received that offer and you knew about it, you'd tell him it reeked of scam.

So i go to this link https://support.steampowered.com/newticket.php , choose dota 2 -> steam trading -> scam reports, and "ask a question" right? will one of the steam staffs contact me afterwards?

@yoshi it's fine, really :) i don't want other people giving me their items just because i did something stupid. Besides, that dragon is a rare drop, enjoy it :P

I got scammed on RuneScape like 8 years ago bro, now I'm gonna go and submit a ticket to get my armor back!

Anyway why are ppl so interested in ingame items, to me as long as i can play the game its v good alr, hardly have time to play 2-3 games. You can sell yeah, but how much can you earn? You have to spend so much time before you can earn a decent amount. Its like merchaning in maple, takes time. If anyone here is a dota 1 player, back then we all just played the low graphics game and had a lot of fun and was satisfied with just playing.

Don't listen to the guy or your intuition when they say not to submit a report. You could get your items back and get his account shut down or banned from trading. He deployed a clear strategy, unquestionable really, to phish for your items. They should be able to see that and take some action.

Got scammed like that once, lost my stupid Heavy Tenderizer for pudge..sigh.. contacted steam..didn't get it back T_T

Thanks to those who reported the scammer. Unfortunately, steam messaged me saying that they can't retrieve my items since the trade was my responsibility. Oh well, don't know what to do at this point.

Ask them if they condone & endorse account phishing. Forget about getting your items back, mistakes have been made. Focus all that you can on getting him locked/banned.

FYI, steam wallet couldn't be transfer.

Update: A good samaritan added me out of the blue and gifted me the compendium today. Needless to say I didn't expect anything like this to happen, but I am so grateful and thankful :)

Then surprisingly another user added me to gift me another compendium. At this point i'm blown away by the kindness of this community. I guess with all the scammers hackers and trolls dota still has a strong community, especially the dotabuff community. So i just want to say a huge thanks to you all, I really appreciate the help, and i'm sorry for the trouble.. (i made 2 guys waste $20 just for me :/ )

P.S. I didn't accept the second compendium gift (although it was a very very kind gesture) because that would make me a scammer instead.

I got scammed out of 6 keys from someone I traded with several times in the past. He immediately spent them all on getting a compendium, so even if support did give refunds they're already gone.
Serves me right for believing people want help or are genuinely good guys. Someone added me a week ago saying he's new to my uni and wanted to get started for the dota club. Gave him a cheap auspicious courier, then turns out he added all my friends too and asked them all for free stuff. Not much loss there, but still annoying.
This time was just dumb, the guy told me he got scammed by his friend and wanted me to buyback the items off the other account in return for the equivalent I traded to his friend; his friend being him. It's so obvious in retrospect, you feel worse for falling for it than you do about losing about $15 of items.
I'm starting to I think I should stop trying to be nice online, this is dota, after all.

That sucks, I got scammed when I was a still very new to the game. Lost some nice rares too people convincing me they where not very valuable. Nothing major but the lengths people will go to scam a rare cm staff off you is ridiculous. I only realized I had been scammed much later when I learnt that not all rares are the same. Still I miss those rares :(

Well I think I got scammed today.. this friend of mine took 3 of my items for a treasure key... however,, this key was for a treasure chest that was retired... the chest is called treasure chest. Does anyone know if it is available in the store ?

I got scammed by those fake steamcommunity websites and i submitted a ticket to valve and they gave me back my items

i got scammed about 2 months ago.. not by this way... but u can always send a ticket to valve including every info u can find and they will give ur items back ( if its the 1st time u get banned ONLY) in about a week
