Here's game vs. Arteezy (Naga) and he did neither have extremely high APM.
APM is different from person to person/heroes to heroes and does not have certain cons/pros (usually) when you get to a certain point, so nothing to worry about.
guess that's your general press Q and wait no matter what happens Spirit Breaker APM xddddd

413 on shadow fiend G. He must be literally spamming right-click nonstop when he isn't dead.
Don't think anyone has said it is symbolic of anything but style - especially as just spamming right-click would give you high APM.
Still think it is interesting it is so different between players - such as G v Dendi at the moment
well, the apm doesnt record every action - like clickin on minimap, shop, inventory, which seem like very important clicks to me tbh.
my apm >9000
apm is meaningless unless you are playing a micro hero
If you are playing chen or meepo or visage or something and have low APM... it means something
APM will only count for effective actions, so spam move clicking won't alter your number. I do think APM is important for micro heroes but it rarely means anything outside of that. Pro player's APM for all positions vary so much and even for the same person with different heroes.
I don't understand what can cause G to have >400APM on Shadow Fiend whilst Dendi had <200 when they were matched up.
The only thing I can imagine G doing each minute an extra 200 times is clicking to move.
From what you say animation cancelling won't count as an action.
EDIT: actually the difference is more like 300
Higher effective APM is better. That doesn't mean your apm is effective though. And even if this stat doesn't record spam it doesn't mean what you're doing with your actions is actually being useful. For example I've seen some high MMR players looking at courier in base/selecting it/grabbing items/sending it. That's a whole bunch of unecessary actions.
Also, micro heroes doesn't necessarily have the highest APM. Personally I find I have more apm with for example AM because I'm tread switching for days, stop cancelling (heroes like sniper/gyro have lower apm because you don't anim cancel) and other things.
TL;DR: Higher effective APM = better player. However it's practically impossible to determine what is effective with a computer. so this stat is mostly meaningless

I know it is just a sign of a player's style, not skill level (at least not within any one match), but what sort of APM do you guys have? What APM do you pros expect?
Any excuse to link a game I owned in :

Even playing a micro hero I pretty much have the lowest APM out there.
