Everyone who works at Dotabuff has moderation capabilities, some take more/less interest in the forums. We have some staff who have forum moderation as one of their core contributions.
The community team (5 people) meet every week and can talk about moderation strategy along with other stuff.
All mods are currently paid, but they all also have other duties beyond moderation.
Lately - get hired for another job at dotabuff, lol.
We may be looking for additional moderation, which may start out as a volunteer position.
We want to redo our reporting system to streamline all moderation efforts. (one day we'll get to it)
i feel so much better to know that there is a dedicated team of people willing to put in the effort to patrol these dark forums for anything that might cause harm to my mental being
do you need to be located in the US in order to get a job at dotabuff? can i become part of the dotabuff team if i got permabanned and i feel like some mods hate me?
You do not need to be in the US. For moderators it's valuable to have a team across several timezones. Both for forum coverage and to get a diverse group of people who can understand community issues around the world (because dota is so global and it's awesome)
If you're been banned several times on the forums it would probably hurt your chances of being hired (especially for a mod position). Both for an obvious logistical reason, but also because if you're an asshole we might not be as excited about working with you.
Most entry level positions at dotabuff are super competitive. For example, we recently hired for social media and got 100+ resumes. And most of them were pretty good. So something like a history of being banned on the forums can certainly hurt that process.
i remember when i first started dotabuff. idk if this guy is an alt of somebody but everyday i read this guy just being a keyboard warrior on every thread good shit stuff
Yeah. Things like being able to report a post from the forum post (and not the player profile). That way there is a clear reporting/papertrail to the content that is inappropriate. And possibly having a way to communicate to the banned user what happened.
lmao, i'm not even sure wether i'd create another smurf if i got permabanned again , let alone create a smurf to get imaginary internet points
the question is, imo, and thats something only you guys at dotabuff can answer, how much traffic do you have on your forums? how many people actually check the forums (regularily) and don't post? how many different people actually post here?
ofc creating a system like reddits doesn't make sense if there are only like 10 people voting regularily
Moderation is fine, I think there is one thing you guys could add to make it better:
add a justification as to why a person has been banned, allowing that guy to figure out what he did wrong.
If I recall correctly, the ban message is something like "you have been banned for n-time for not adhering to the dotabuff code of conduct", which isn't informative.
i wonder if there's a dotabuff office somewhere and there's this one mod who's dedicated to checking ayy lmao thread
and once in a while he suddenly shouts "what tHE FUCK" with people around him working and minding their business
I am leaving for about a week and wont be available to play. Ill make afeect the team leader on faceit so he will be in charge of the registration.
Also i guess the #2 qualifier will be held on tuesday in the evening and will continue on wednesday (ull get eliminated by then anyways so it doesnt matter).
@Haffy, no

i see lmao hope that thing comes smoothly
also pls give bannable terms, even if they're just from the top of your head but like words that instantly raise ban levels when read, ty

just add a vote system like reddit or add a post counter
especially by using the 1st one everybody will become a karma-wh0re and never insult anybody to get sweet pts
ur idea is bad as well
who the fuck would play 10 games on smurfs to upvote his own posts? that would be ridiculous
uhhhh... lots of people? Maybe we need to authenticate people by games played secretly. And let the smurfs "shadow vote"
the whole concept has its disadvantages cz it motivates ppl to do things they'd better not do
lmao, i'm not even sure wether i'd create another smurf if i got permabanned again , let alone create a smurf to get imaginary internet points
