He doesn't just play support though, but yeah, I believe being a support shouldn't really stop anyone from achieving their mmr goals.
There are currently 5 players within 100 MMR of 9k on the leaderboards. It looks like the top players are focusing a bit more on pubs after TI is over.

Im surprise nobody had made a thread abt kaka hitting 9k. He's proof that u can climb your MMR by playing support. (And some other roles too)
