The graphics are much better and more detailed. The interface and game mechanics are more fluid. The overall product of Dota 2 appears more polished (to me) than LofL.
I'll admit though, waiting ~10-15 minutes to get a match going sucks in comparison of the <1 minute in LofL.

to me the league mechanics seem more fluid in reality, the games just better optimized, if i play on a laptop, my dota struggles to run properly when league runs on max settings and it shows over a 100 fps in-game.
the biggest thing is that league has a team builder, which means that if you only play mid, thers a 90% chance that you will get your mid each time you queue. supporting in league doesnt even suck, either.
Which really solves a lot of problems, if everyone gets the role that they want (and league put in effort so not only the carry and the mid roles are fun to play), very few players will want to ruin the game, and this leads to massively increased game quality.
i mean i guess its personal preference but in reality i cant even handle dota anymore after playing league for a month because of how super toxic it is and how you cant do anything about it when some guy jsut decides to ruin your game coz he wants to. and he can just go nexct game, and ruin it too without consequence, whereas in league he would get permabanned.
i dont even care that league is 'for casuals' and dota is 'high skill players with muh skillcap', im a fucking casual and if i cant play a proper damn game of dota after years of learning and grinding to reach 4k i am just gonna move to league where i can get a proper game without even needing to care about it.

LoL doesn't feel right. It pretty much enforces the players to follow one laning formula for every single game. I don't play it, so I don't know if it's still true, but even if it isn't, LoL players could confirm that it's done that for years.
I don't like the mechanics either. Not being able to deny isn't fun. 98% of items only giving stats or passive effects isn't fun either.
Honestly though, the biggest reason is that I don't feel like learning what another 100+ different characters' skills and abilities are from scratch.
I have a friend who plays lol and yes without a doubt the game is more fun for casual and oriented to suit mass majority and more fast paced. But for me personally I've been playing dota 1 ever since it was introduce to me back in my highschool days. Currently im 22 years old and I dont feel like changing to other game cause i dont get much free time anymore and learning something new is a waste of time if your trying to balance studies, girlfriend, family, life in general. It feels like dota has always been there for me to play and improve and i love the strategic oriented efficiency that exist in dota game mechanics. Support is yep "ward bitch slave" in lower level but the thought of improving and getting in higher level by just having impact as a simple support leave you with a great feeling of satisfaction itself. Dota toxic community teaches me that you should just focus on your role in life and forget the flamers and win the life journey
learn how to do proper support guys,it's seriously not "ward bitch slave" and real fun when you do it correct at the first 10 mins of game
you can make yourself immortal too with proper positioning since you don't really want to be at the middle of the fights

LoL censors profanity in chat, it has absolutely no come-back mechanics, and the only way for players to communicate is to type in chat (no mic system, no chat wheel, very primitive alt-click indicators). basically things we take for granted in dotes
in league, barracks respawn. checkmate mister no comeback mechanics. (actually probably the main reason why i ended up playing league, it being uniquely different from dota, enough to make it a new experience but still fun).
also chat filter is disablable. but yeah, there are truts in that.
i mean my point is clear, the reasons why i see league as better for the average gamer is because it emphasises on pubs, basically in my 1 month of playing league ive pretty much never had a straight up unpleasant and ruined game all of us so frequently get in below 5k mmr.
dota is literally a game for the top 3% of the playerbase.
its not that im unwilling to learn, its more that i played league and became spoiled, i turn on dota, i get 4 assholes in my game who all pick cores junglers afk farm despite what the team needs, i say fuck off and bye, instead of sucking it deep, and go play a game where my time doesnt get wasted by some asshole teammates who dont even care to pick like civil players.

i mean its a waste of time, im hovering around the 3.8k-4k mark, and im well aware that the toxicity and ruined games arent going to end when my 3.8k mmr becomes 4.1k mmr. its gotten to the point that when i started playing league, i didnt even imagine that i'd literally get 0, straight up 0 ruined games. I expected at least 10%, realistically also 30%.

For the most part, OP is right about Dota. Lol seems like a much more inviting place for casuals. Maybe Dota should adopt the forced role system.
@ProWeeabo that is kinda right, and while hitting our spells is a big part of your teamfight, that simply counts as a gameplay skill and mechanic, league isnt about landing skills, in the end its only a bit less strategic than dota (the difference in the small "skill cap" things is rather big, though), to the point that the best league players would rival the skill of 7k+ pubstars in dota if given time to adapt and learn the game properly simply because their strategic sense will be exactly that, of a highest tier pubstomper.
the same the other way around, if a 4-5k goes to league, after learning the game he will become a relatively high tier (top 10-5%) player in no time.

if there was more active items and not just 9999 +stat items it would be more palatable to me
I've played both and in my experience lol is way more toxic. But it has this team builder, which is really damn good. Other than that the games are so different. Dota allows you to be a lot more creative. In league every game looks the same and i simply got bored of it in 1-2 weeks of playing. All the champions do more or less same things depending on role. That is not the case with dota, even after several years of playing. Maybe coz i dont play stuff casually.

well i had in mind straight up game-ruining, not toxic, which is similar but different. its more about picking gamelosingly suboptimal team comps (which i guess happens in league too but you can just dodge the game without getting low priority and -25 mmr) or shadow amulet afk, courierfeeding, shared tango abuse, etc.
i myself went on to play jungler (which unlike in dota, is the most active and early playmaking role), and its kinda easily comparable with the feeling that dota gives you tbh. it is true though that the other roles are a bit one-dimensional especially not in the highest rank.
I kinda cared about peoples opinions as to why they prefer dota over league, and im going to share what i learned from this thread with my friends. and ofc im recommending the people i meet in league who seem like good players to try dota out, both games are good and having knowledge of the other game can only make you better.

LoL gameplay is alot different from DoTA so it is hard to compare. I dislike the idea that you have to unlock champion by buying them.

considering that dota has no team builder, no punishment for toxic players or game ruiners, no way to enforce quality of ranked pub games, i fail to see any reason to play dota2 if you are not at least 6k mmr and aiming to play somewhat competitively.
the support roles arent even fun to play when all your cores are toxic as fukc and just make you out to be some ward slave and flame you for everything, even if you are making the right play.
