Used to have the same problem and risked getting abandons all the time. I found the solution in spamming ctrl+alt+delete until the screen with the heroes appeared after repeating for 6-7-8 times. Not really a solution but better than nothing.

I'm experiencing black screen during picking phase. It's really annoying because I have to lose so much gold almost every game, can anyone help or has anyone experienced the same issue?
